I have never been in favor of energy drinks, not only because they contain tons of sugar, they are also loaded with so much artificial ingredients. Being tired in the gym is a state of mind. Both Renene & myself never wake up dragging. And if you work out on a regular basis & eat well, your body has all the energy source required. Energy should come from the food you eat & just having a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. All the years Renene competed, she never once took anything to energize her. She worked full time, then off to the gym to train (in powerlifting) for hours. All these artificial energy boosters will take their toll on your body. Your mind should be stronger than a little ‘ol drink.

A soft drink usually has 19 to 25 grams of sugar in each eight-ounce serving. Energy drinks on average contain more than this. Red Bull, for example, contains 27 grams of sugar per serving of 250 milliliters (a little over eight ounces). This can be very dangerous, for an overload of sugar can lead to gastric emptying. The body becomes dehydrated, which prevents metabolized sugar from entering the bloodstream. This often results in nausea and vomiting. So when you are thirsty, think twice before grabbing an energy drink to rehydrate yourself. Read the full story at THE TARTAN newspaper.

what are your thoughts on ’sugar-free’ energy drinks? I, on occassion, will grab a sugar-free Red Bull. And what about adding the new Crystal Lite flavor packets to your water bottle? Is this okay? Or should I stay away from that, as well? I already know how you feel about my Starbucks addiction!

    From Renene to Lisa:
Sugar free (anything) is full of chemicals. And a big NO to Crystal Lite. I forget which one, but, it has that bad sweetner. If you have something sweet, then do ice tea sweetened with Stevia. Or try adding to your water… orange, lemon, or lime slices. I sometimes put both orange & lime in together. My doctor said this will trick the intestines into thinking that there is real fiber to be digested & will go to work processing the liquid as a food (which is a good thing).
P.S. Still waiting to see your blog!!!

good to know, Renene! Thanks! I’ve had lime in my water before, but never thought of orange slices. I will try it! I’m not a fan of lemon in my water. And I thought the Crystal Lite was the way to go. Oh well.

And I am emailing you my blog link!

I have a feeling this post is due to all the Monster energy drinks Randy got for his birthday!
