Aspartame is the sweetener used in Crystal Lite, here are 2 good reasons… from Renene :-)
#1) I was at amazon, looking at books and saw one that is titled, “Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills“. The author contends that MSG and other similar glutamates can cause the development of tumors, memory loss, and a host of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s. The author also claims that Parkinson’s was unheard of before the arrival of MSG and aspartame.
#2) This site has a list of aspartame symptoms that have been submitted to the FDA. Some of the symptoms reported are, hives, change in heart rate, gran mal seizures, memory loss and difficulty breathing. The site also shows the distribution of symptoms by product consumed, with diet soft drinks being at the top of the list.
FOR THOSE THAT NEED TO SWEETEN THEIR DRINK, USE STEVIA OR REAL SUGAR (ORGANIC). I use Stevia, but, if you use real sugar, it is better than chemicals.

I’ve been doing a little research too, Renene. Like you said, Sugar-free Red Bull is made with aspartame and after linking to the aspartame symptoms I realized I have suffered seven from the list. That’s crazy messed up, isn’t it! I’m second guessing everything I put in my mouth these days. Thanks for your post on this!!

Wow Lisa, what were the seven. Very curious, perhaps I should post them here for everyone to know.

If tempted to use a product with aspartame… look at this private study.

WOW! Makes me want to feed like the caveman - berries from the trees and nothing more. (ok, maybe an occassional Starbucks)
Thanks for the info.
Renene: my symptoms include headache, dizziness/poor equilibrium, change of mood, vomiting/nausea, abdominal pain/cramps, fatigue/weakness, and sleep problems.
Thing is, those are probably common symptoms for a number of deficiencies and/or indulgences, so I never gave it a second thought!
