Welcome to my new category, Ringside Reports. I will be doing short editorials on what is going on at Irongloves. To start with, Irongloves now has a fight team.
I get so many emails from our friends around the U.S. and abroad, asking what is going on at Irongloves, the daily events, etc. Now you can click on my category Ringside Reports by Joe to find out. Renene will also be doing some up close and personal stories.
Also, don’t forget about Stevie Davis helping out from across the ocean, you will be getting world wide coverage. Did you know that England often gets fight/boxing news before we do over here in the US?
If any of Irongloves members would like me to write about a certain subject, please feel free to email me @ ironglovesboxing@aol.com
Big thanks & talk to you tomorrow!

Below is an article by ex-champ Barry McGuigan
Cotto and Margarito served up a welterweight classic last week in Las Vegas. Ultimately the better chin won. Cotto went out bravely. Margarito’s rearranged feature were testament to the valour and skill of Cotto. In the end he just did not have the guns to nail his opponent. Few have, the mexican walks through everything, and at 5ft 11, was too big for Cotto. A slickster like Paul Williams is the nemesis of Margarito. Cotto was ultimately too slow on his feet in the latter rounds. He tired and got nailed. Hatton would have been looking closely at this, he will have saw how the mexicans relentless pressure paid dividends. Hatton shares the work rate of Margarito. That is not to say Hatton will automatically have the same success. He’ll take some hits. But by standing in range Cotto will be open to the classic Hatton response – a right hand to the side of the head or a left hook up the middle.
Hatton’s problem would be getting caught square, something Margarito avoided. Towards the end of his relationship with his retiring trainer Billy Graham, Hatton began to lose a little from his game. The head movement and anticipation were not quite there. He feinted a lot more at his best. He would show you something then hit you with a different punch. At his best he was a relentless non-stop puncher. Those attributes seemed to have ebbed a little by the time he met Mayweather. Hatton showed improvements in his comeback against Lazcano. The defense was tighter, the head movement better – minor adjustments that made the difference. Hatton has to get through Malignaggi, and he’ll have to be at his best. But he now has an incentive to beat Malignaggi in style – Cotto.
Pressure and pace were the elements that ultimately did for Cotto last week. That is Hatton’s game. If he can reach the standards that earned the shot at Mayweather, you have to give Hatton a chance against Cotto. Mentally he believes he’s not the same fighter at welterweight. But Cotto is no Mayweather. Hatton against Cotto would be some sign off, eh Ricky?
These are a few of the Hitman’s topics he jokes about on stage. When asked how he’d feel fighting at four in the morning Las Vegas time……….”Everybody in Manchester fights at 4 am, when the clubs empty out.”
On his out -of- training diet…………..”They’ve nicknamed me Ricky Fatton. Mind you, i have had a lot on my plate lately.”
On his favourite fighter…………”My favourite fighter was Mike Tyson. Imagine coming home and finding Tyson in bed with your wife ? You’d tuck him in wouldn’t you!”
On spending time away with Floyd Mayweather………….”I’ve missed my 6 year old son, but i probably haven’t missed him as much as you think, because i’ve had the good fortune to spend the full week with another bloody 6 year old.”
What went through his mind when being floored by Mayweather…………”If you ever see boxing matches, you see hundreds of ring lights shining down on the canvas. The canvas that night was royal blue, and it just so happens the sheet on my bed at the time was royal blue. So Floyd hit me, my head hit the canvas, and all i can see is the light shining down on me, on my back on this royal blue canvas. I thought it was the sun shining through my bedroom window.”
