By Dan Ambrose/BoxingNews24.com: Promoter Gary Shaw thinks that former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (51—5-1, 32 KO’s) will beat World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KO’s) on December 18th in Quebec, Canada. In an interview by Stephen Edwards at Boxingtalk.com, Shaw says “I think Pascal is making a big mistake by fighting Hopkins. I have all the respect in the world for Hopkins. I think he is going to beat Pascal. I hope I’m wrong, because of our [referring to his fighter Chad Dawson] rematch clause but that’s how I feel.” You have to wonder whether Shaw might still have hurt feelings towards Pascal because of his win over Dawson last month on August 14th.

Dawson was supposed to have won that fight, but instead he looked timid and ended up getting beaten by an 11th round technical decision. Hopkins, 45, is coming off of two consecutive mediocre performances against first Enrique Ornelas and recently Roy Jones Jr. last April. We can’t really tell how good Hopkins is at this point, because he hasn’t really looked good in two years since beating Kelly Pavlik by a 12 round decision in October 2008. Instead of following that win up immediately with a big money fight, Hopkins stayed out of the ring for the next 14 months and didn’t return to action until facing Ornelas in December 2009.

The time away from the ring really seemed to hurt Hopkins because he looked old and slow against Ornelas, and nothing like the same fighter that beat Pavlik 14 months prior. Hopkins looked little better in his win over 41-year-old Roy Jones Jr. in April of this year, winning the fight by a 12 round decision but looking slow, and not throwing a lot of punches. Hopkins appears to have deteriorated since his narrow decision loss to Joe Calzaghe and his fight with Pavlik in 2008.

I think Shaw is remembering Hopkins of old, but not the Hopkins that exists now. Pascal should beat Hopkins rather easily. Hopkins will try his punch and grab routine, but that’s not enough to beat a fast and powerful fighter like Pascal. I think even if Hopkins can win some rounds based on his popularity rather than what’s really happening in the fight, I still see him losing by 9 rounds to 3.

Over 5,500 auto accidents caused by texting and/or just being on the bloody cell phone in general. The report didn’t state how many deaths as a result. However, it did say that texting will become more of a killer than Drunk driving. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT WHEN DRIVING!

Apparently, Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t overly concerned about his impending legal battle.

Report by Tony Curtis/Bleacher Report

In my head there is a great debate about top 10 pound for pound lists. Do you base the list off of talent or record and opponents beaten.

When I compile my list it is a mixture of talent and opponents beaten. I don’t believe in putting a fighter higher over another one because he has more talent.

If you have all the talent in the world and beat nobodies you aren’t deserving. If you are beating top fighters day in and day out that means you have good talent.

Without rambling anymore here is my top 10 pound for pound list.

10. Fernando Montiel

Titles: WBO bantamweight champion

Why: Has held titles in three different weight classes and has fought good opposition since 2000.

9. Pongsaklek Wonnjongkam

Titles: WBC, The Ring flyweight champion

Why: Only six fighters are Ring champions and he is one of them. Has been at the top of his division for a very long time.

8. Giovanni Segura

Titles: WBA, WBO, The Ring light flyweight champion

Why: The only man to defeat Ivan Calderon and has been on a blazing pace since 2008. He is a rising star in the sport.

7. Sergio Martinez

Titles: WBC, The Ring middleweight champion

Why: Has held titles in two divisions and has been on a tear since 2008. May fight the best schedule of any active fighter.

6. Paul Williams

Titles: None

Why: He has beaten Martinez and has fought good opponents since 2008. Currently is scheduled to rematch Martinez.

5. Timothy Bradley

Titles: WBO light welterweight champion

Why: He has fought top tier opponents since 2008 and is a throwback fighter. Has a lot of potential and isn’t afraid to fight anyone.

4. Wladimir Klitschko

Titles: IBF, WBO, The Ring heavyweight champion

Why: He is clearly the best fighter at heavyweight and has been for a long time. He also hasn’t lost a fight since 2004.

3. Juan Manuel Marquez

Titles: WBO, WBA, The Ring lightweight champion

Why: Only fights the best and usually wins. His last three losses were to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Chris John. Two undefeated fighters and numbers one and two on the pound for pound list. Most underrated fighter in the game.

2. Manny Pacquiao

Titles: WBO welterweight champion

Why: I find his wins impressive but they are a bit on the handpicked side. When he faces and beats a top level boxer then I will move him to number one. Really is a one b fighter not a number two.

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Titles: None

Why: Has beaten a lot of good fighters in his career. Is coming off a shellacking of Shane Mosley which I find more impressive then Pacquiao’s win over Joshua Clottey. Personally think that his fights are handpicked to but his last win vaults him here.

So those are my pound for pound rankings. The back end of mine are very different from The Ring’s and my placing of Klitschko is much higher.

These are not the perfect ratings but they are mine (as per Tony Curtis) and I am sure people will have comments about them.

When Ricky was asked by John Stapelton if he could remember the first time he snorted cocaine, and under what circumstances? Hatton stated he could not recall, but he did recollect that it happened sometime after his second round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao.

Heavy duty, big daddy of a sledge hammer is here. It’s so big that we gave it a name, “GODZILLA“. Even big dude Mark Evans had a hard time tackling it.

Good boxing class tonight, I had a decent size turnout. All the usual members were in today, quite a few Open Gym members doing their thing. The coaches were hopping, busy day all around.
