FIGHT TO BE HELD IN PHOENIX

Former cruiserweight champion and 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Vassiliy “The Tiger” Jirov (37-3-1, 31 KOs) will face Dominique Alexander (18-7-1, 9 KOs) when he returns to the ring for the first time in two years on October 17 at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. “We are committed to keeping top-level shows like this one coming to Arizona, where the fans are enthusiastic supporters of world-class action,” said Jirov’s manager Ivaylo Gotzev. “Vassiliy is the perfect fighter to help us bring boxing back to the area. He moved to Phoenix after the 1996 Olympics and has lived here ever since. He trains in downtown Phoenix at Central Gym and Joe Diaz’s Gym.” Ironically, Jirov’s last Phoenix appearance was his sold-out 12-round IBF cruiserweight title defense against Jorge Castro in 2002 at the very same Celebrity Theatre.

In the main supporting bout, Phoenix native and star of The Contender series, Eric “Dynamite” Vega (8-4-1, 6 KOs) will face heavy-fisted former world champion Kelvin “Konkrete” Davis (24-10-3, 17 KOs) in a cruiserweight showdown.

Also on the undercard, Arizona will get its first look at former amateur world champion and now undefeated light heavyweight Ismayl Silakh of the Ukraine (9-0, 8 KOs) as well as an intriguing showdown between Phoenix super lightweight Eddie Brooks (8-2, 3 KOs) and Sweden’s undefeated Shadi Hamsho (10-0, 2 KOs).

Tickets for “Phoenix Rising” are available at the Celebrity Theatre box office, online at www.celebritytheatre.com or by calling 602.267.1600. They are priced at $25 and $50 with a limited number of Gold Circle VIP seats available for $100.

They don’t come any better than Vernon Forrest his love for his program ‘Destiny’s Child’, is an organization of group homes for mentally disabled adults. He worked with these loving souls on a one-on-one basis, he loved them all, he believed in them, and wanted to help them make a difference for themselves. He’d share holiday dinners with them, sit in church with them, teach them to use the internet, and would even answer their phone calls at all hours. He said “they were his brothers”.

Here are some video tributes via YouTube, please take the time to watch and remember a REAL HERO!

Joe and Tony are from Ohio, like Kelly Pavlik, that’s why we support the “Ghost” !!!!

As reported by MaxBoxing:
After weeks of haggling and back and forth at the negotiating table, we finally have a fight that will pit two of the very best young prizefighters in the world. As middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will defend his crown versus ‘the Punisher’ Paul Williams, October 3rd in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

“You got a fight, fights on,” confirmed Cameron Dunkin, the manager of Pavlik to Maxboxing on late Tuesday afternoon.” Paul Williams is a terrific fighter but my guys also a great fighter and it’s a sensational fight for boxing. It’s going to be something, it’s going to be fireworks.” Simply put, there was too much money on the table for both sides and not a lot of options for both Pavlik and Williams at the current moment. And Pavlik according to Dunkin, gave his marching orders- make this fight a reality. “Again, Kelly did this with the (Edison) Miranda fight, a lot of people said he was underpaid for that fight because Kelly just called me up and said,” Cameron, just make fight,’ when no one else wanted to fight Miranda. And of course the ( Jermain) Taylor fight, rather than getting strung along and them asking for an exception and all that, he said,’ Forget about the money and just make me a fair deal. Get me what you can and let’s fight.’ Same way.

“Well, these guys, they nit-picked and played and horsed around for weeks and they would up getting more and more and more. And again, true to his word,’ That’s OK, just get me the fight.’ So Kelly’s a real fighter and these other guys want to play businessman and all that and string everybody along. If Kelly was a crybaby, believe me, this fight wouldn’t have been made, at all. Not even close.”
