Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko realizes he is a big favorite every time he steps into the ring, and he will be again when he defends his unified titles against former cruiserweight world champion Jean-Marc Mormeck.

Klitschko will make the 11th defense of his second title reign against the 39-year-old Mormeck on Dec. 10 at the ESPRIT Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“I know that I am the favorite in all my fights but I also know that each opponent is motivated to be in the best shape ever when he fights me,” said Klitschko, who is 17-2 in world title bouts and will be participating in his 20th title fight. “Mormeck is one of the most experienced fighters I have ever faced. He has had many world title fights, has a very good technique, can take a lot of punches and is very intelligent inside the ring. To underestimate him would be a fatal mistake.”

Mormeck acknowledged his underdog status. “I can imagine what the odds will look like for me against Wladimir Klitschko, but I know my skills.”

The fight will be the first for the 35-year-old Klitschko (56-3, 49 KOs) since a landslide decision victory against titlist David Haye in their heavily hyped July 2 bout in Hamburg, Germany.

In 2007, Haye, also a former cruiserweight champion, went to Mormeck’s native France, survived a fourth-round knockdown and rallied to knock him out in the seventh round to win the cruiserweight title.

After the loss, Mormeck (36-4, 22 KOs) took nearly two years off before returning as a heavyweight. He has won each of his three heavyweight bouts against second-tier opposition: Vinny Maddalone, Fres Oquendo and Timur Ibragimov.

“I had Haye on the canvas and shortly before a knockout, which Klitschko could not do,” Mormeck said. “What I missed out against Haye I will now do with him. Wladimir has a glass chin which I will break. He cannot stand punches. Against his brother (fellow heavyweight champion) Vitali I would have thought longer about fighting him, but against Wladimir I believe I have very good chances. On Dec. 11, I will travel back to Paris with a suitcase full of championship belts. I enjoy being the underdog in this fight and I will shock the boxing world.”

Mormeck’s accomplishments have primarily been as a cruiserweight. He stopped Virgil Hill in the eighth round to win a belt in 2002. He defended it four times, including winning a decision against Wayne Braithwaite to unify two titles in 2005. In his next fight in 2006, Mormeck met O’Neil Bell to further unify the division and was knocked out in the 10th round at New York’s Madison Square Garden Theater.

Two fights later, Mormeck gained revenge when he won a decision against Bell in France in the rematch. In his next fight, Mormeck was knocked out by Haye.

James Toney Looks for Cruiserweight Boxing Return Against Lebedev as MMA Bout with Shamrock Recedes.

Source: Johnny Walker

Veteran heavyweight James “Lights Out” Toney, last seen in a boxing ring waddling to a unanimous decision over the ironically named “Dangerous” Damon Reed while weighing a career-high 257 pounds, is threatening a return to the boxing ring, as a proposed but never scheduled MMA bout with Ken Shamrock has seemingly fallen apart over money issues. According to a press release from Toney’s camp, he now hopes to fight top cruiserweight contender Denis Lebedev (who recently knocked out a badly faded Roy Jones Jr.) on November 5 in Russia.

Toney (73-6-3, 44 KOs) has been claiming in interviews with various online boxing sites to have dropped a ton of weight, and indeed, a recent picture of the fighter circulating on the internet does show him looking to be much lighter than he was when he resembled Baby Huey back in February against the light-hitting Reed, who was recently knocked cold by heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder in two rounds.

“I’m going to beat [Lebedev's] ass right at his weight class, so he can’t make any excuses,” claims Toney in the press release.

However, weight is only one of Toney’s problems. The fighter has been seen in recent video interviews with boxing journalist Elie Seckbach to be mumbling and slurring his words and looking glassy-eyed. Toney has also been losing his temper in public with increasing frequency, causing a major ruckus at the presser for the proposed fight with Shamrock, and also losing his membership at a health club for another angry outburst. These signs of possible pugilistic dementia indicate that Toney, who is rumored to have issues with the tax man, should not be licensed to fight without some very serious scrutiny from medical professionals.

Toney’s talents in the ring may be faded, but he is still able to trash talk with the best of them. Already thinking ahead, he is also joining the long queue to face the newly crowned WBA “regular heavyweight champion” Alexander Povetkin, a much preferable option to fighting either of the true world heavyweight champion Klitschko brothers, who Toney never fails to insult with juvenile taunts.

“November 5, I’m going to invade Russia and show this punk what happens when he messes with the USA,” he says of Lebedev.

“I’m calling it “Lights Out in Russia” because he’s just the first one I’m going to whip. After I beat up this Lebedev, I’m going back to Heavyweight after the one too afraid to fight the Klitschko sisters. Povetkin, I’m kicking his ass too!”

Confidence or delusion? We’ll leave it to the reader to decide.

Floyd junior’s uncle Jeff Mayweather is predicting that the long-awaited showdown between the undefeated American and his pound-for-pound rival Manny Pacquiao will not take place for another two years.

A potentially mouthwatering clash between the two fighters has yet to be agreed, despite the growing clamour, although the bout looked to have moved a step closer in recent times after Pacquiao’s camp accepted Mayweather’s demands for stringent blood testing.

Pacquiao, who is attempting to sue Mayweather for defamation after the American suggested his rival has used performance-enhancing substances, is preparing to face Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time in November, while Mayweather is scheduled to meet Victor Ortiz on September 17.

With both men not getting any younger, there are growing fears the fight the sport craves most may never happen – although Jeff Mayweather is convinced the pair will get it on in 2013.

“I think he [Mayweather] will be fighting another couple of years,” he told Fighthype.com. “I think that’s being realistic because I think the fight that’s out there will take that long to materialise.”

Mayweather, who has not fought since outpointing Shane Mosley in May 2010, makes his eagerly-anticipated return to the ring against Ortiz, who has only lost twice in 33 fights, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Ortiz won his WBC welterweight belt with a unanimous decision against Andre Berto in April, despite being knocked down twice, but Jeff Mayweather believes his nephew will take the 24-year-old “to school”.

“I think Victor Ortiz is a beast, but I think Victor Ortiz is going to be taken to school like he’s never been taken to school before in his life,” he said. “I mean, Floyd has already fought Victor Ortiz. He fought him when he fought Ricky Hatton, and Ricky was a better version of Ortiz. I think that Ortiz is a guy who is caught up in the fact that he’s coming off of his biggest win, and of course he’s riding the wave, but the reality of it is this, Victor Ortiz has never faced anyone who is remotely close to having Floyd’s ability.

“He’s going to be taken to school, drowned in the deep water and get himself knocked out. He’s too smart for him; he can stand right in front of Victor Ortiz and do whatever he wants to do to him.”

Manny PacquiaoManny Pacquiao was recently hospitalized in the Philippines for another flare-up of acid reflux. You may recall that he was treated for the same problem in May of last year. This time, he spent one night at the the Cardinal Santos Hospital and was released the next day. Doctors say he has an excellent prognosis. Pacquiao has since resumed his duties as Congressman of the province of Sarangani and is set to defend his title against Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas on November 12.

From what I know about acid reflux, it can be very painful. Apparently, the stomach acid comes up from the stomach and goes into the esophagus which causes anything from mild heartburn to a sensation of severe burning. Do you think this could affect his fight with Marquez? Will Pacquiao’s upset stomach give Marquez an upset victory?

TMZ has obtained VIDEO of the moment Floyd Mayweather set fire to a $100 bill in an Atlanta nightclub … and if you were mad before, this new footage is REALLY gonna make you ill.

Floyd Mayweather

As we previously reported, Floyd won’t be prosecuted for illegally burning the $100 bill — which, for the record, would take over 19 hours to earn if you’re making minimum wage in Georgia.

Ricky Hatton Britain’s former two-weight world champion, has announced his retirement from boxing.

The 32-year-old has refused to confirm his retirement since his last fight two years ago when he lost to Manny Pacquaio.

Hatton has been linked with several big-name fighters since, most notably the only two men to beat him – Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr – but he now appears ready to call time on his 14-year professional career.

The Manchester Evening News reported that the Stockport born fighter will announce his retirement on Thursday afternoon signaling the end of a dramatic career that has seen him achieve success at welterweight and light-welterweight level.
