Franklin Lawrence Challenges Vitali Klitschko for June 4

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 4, 2011)—Fresh off his one round stoppage over Odlanier Solis on March 19th, WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has indicated that he would like to get back in the ring on June 4th and emerging contender Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence believes he has as much any right with his recent credentials to be Klitschko’s opponent that night.
Lawrence of Indianapolis has a record of 14-2-2 with nine knockouts and is coming off a tenth round stoppage over former U.S Olympian Jason Estrada back on January 29th.
Before that bout, Lawrence stopped perennial contender Lance Whitaker in seven rounds.
“I know getting a title opportunity is based on merit and my last two wins are as quality wins as any of the guys they are talking about to be Vitali’s challenger.” Said Lawrence
“The fella that is rumored to have the inside track on the fight hasn’t had a big win in about six years and here I have two in about six months. I understand that Adamek maybe getting a shot in the fall but all you have to do is look at the Estrada fight’s and compare what he did and what I did and Estrada came into the fight with me saying it was the first fight he was at 100 percent in a long time”
“I know that given the opportunity I will rise to the occasion. I have one loss that is legitimate. Everyone who saw my fight with McCall knows I won that fight but that is the past and I am looking towards a shot at realizing my dream to bring the Heavyweight title back to the heartland of America.”
“Franklin has worked hard and all you have to do is see his wins. His brother offered Dereck Chisora an opportunity with a lot less of a resume then Franklin so if Vitali looks at Franklins victories he knows he is as worthy as him or Sosnowski”, said Lawrence’s promoter Dave Escalet of Fisticuffs Promotions.
‘Don’t be surprised if I kill him’ Hopkins stated.
Want to make a professional boxer mad, for some weird reason? All you need to do is suggest he’s on performance-enhancing drungs.
That was the lesson learned by boxer Jean Pascal this week, who saw his once and future opponent Bernard Hopkins threaten to kill him in the ring for accusations Pascal made about Hopkins and PEDS.
In a press conference announcing the pair’s upcoming heavyweight championship rematch on Monday, Hopkins was livid. “When a guy says I’m eating some kind of candy…that makes me angry,” he said. “Don’t be surprised if he dies in the ring on May 21. Don’t be surprised if I kill him. That’s how angry I am.”
In a second press conference, held Tuesday the Times Square Planet Hollywood, the two men aggressively stared each other down as cameras flashed.
Hopkins, 46, and Pascal, 28, previously fought a 12-round draw in Quebec last December, a result widely considered embarrassing to the local Pascal. Afterward, Pascal intimated that Hopkins had taken performance-enhancing drugs, because of the latter’s uncharacteristic aggressiveness in the bout.
Press conference rivalry. On Monday, Jean Pascal & Bernard Hopkins engaged in a shoving match at the news conference in Montreal.
After 46-year-old Hopkins called 28-year-old Pascal a “scared punk”, Pascal in the video repeatedly asking Hopkins to take the test. Pascal accuses Hopkins of alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.
The two are set to fight on May 21 in Montreal. Some of you members might recall when Jean Pascal trained at Irongloves on 2 occasions, in prep for two titles.

‘Money’ Mayweather wants a whopping $100M to fight Pacquiao. Is he just pricing himself out of the fight because he just can’t find the courage to say NO???

Source: Bleacher Report
For the nth time, Floyd Mayweather Jr. indicated in a subtle way how he loathed a meeting with Manny Pacquiao inside the ring.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum disclosed how Floyd Jr. priced himself out of another possible clash with the sensational boxing superstar from the Philippines by demanding a hefty purse for himself.
And his suggested self-worth? A whopping $100 million.
“That’s right. That’s for himself,” Arum said shortly after watching Pacquiao does his thing in training camp at the Shape Up gym of the Cooyesan Hotel in Baguio.
“Pay him $100 million? Unless Manny fights for nothing, how can you do the fight?”
Talks of a possible showdown with the 32-year-old Pacquiao were revived recently following a discussion between Arum and rival promoter Don King.
Pacquiao is currently the face of Arum’s Top Rank Promotions, while Mayweather, although not officially being represented by King, has turned to the eccentric promoter lately on decisions pertaining to boxing.
“We (King) went through with the negotiations and nobody really knew about it,” Arum recalled. “Then some group came in saying they plan to have it in a particular country. And Mayweather asked for a figure that was so high it was practically an indication that he didn’t want to fight.”
The ploy is just the latest in a series of major excuses advanced by the 32-year-old Mayweather in an obvious attempt not to make possible the fight many projected could go down as the biggest and richest in the history of prize fighting.
The brash, unbeaten American earlier demanded that he and Pacquiao undergo Olympic-style drug testing. This transpired in two failed attempts in the past to arrange the bout pitting two of the biggest draws in boxing today.
Now that another opportunity has cropped up for the fight to happen, Mayweather, a bronze medal winner in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, found another way to make himself unavailable.
“He’s not asking for the moon,” added Arum, 79. “He just can’t say no. He doesn’t want to fight. So, you price your way out of it.” – KY, JVP, RCJ, GMA News
