Irongloves Boxing <![CDATA[“The Pink Cat”]]> http://blog.ironglovesboxing.com/2008/11/17/the-pink-cat.html 2008-11-17T21:55:03Z 2008-11-17T21:55:03Z Boxing Nostalgia Renene Rambles pinkcat.jpgPerry Scott Walker Professional Boxer, born October 30, 1969 in Mesa, lived in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Walker’s nickname was “The Pink Cat,” and he gained some attention in the 1990s boxing scene for wearing pink boxing trunks and slicked-back hair, the latter a tribute to his idol, James Dean. He is best known for winning a ten round decision over hall-of-fame champion Alexis Arguello, ending Arguello’s ill-conceived bid at a comeback in 1995. Walker fought another hall-of-famer Julio Cesar Chaves in 1996 in a nationally televised bought, losing in a second-round knockout. Walker infamously cried tears in the ring after the knockout, fueling rumors (started by the Pink Cat nickname and pink trunks) that he was gay. Later in his career, Walker won the WBC Continental Americas light welterweight title over Francisco Cuesta on July 17, 1995. He retired with a record of 25-7-1 (13 KO’s).

January 31, 2004 Walker was found dead (age 34) in his home of unspecified causes. He is a member of the Arizona Boxing Hall of Fame. Fight Record: BoxRec

Footnote: Personally I don’t think he was gay, he was just man enough to dare to wear pink. It is really bad what they say about people after they are dead and gone. A friend of ours from Las Vegas knew Walker, said the guy was a truly skilled boxer.

Irongloves Boxing <![CDATA[Increase your Immune System (???)]]> http://blog.ironglovesboxing.com/2008/11/16/increase-you-immune-system.html 2008-11-16T22:03:45Z 2008-11-16T22:03:45Z Nutrition (good & bad) I know it sounds wacky, but there are several websites that say that lightly tapping on your thymus helps boost your immunity:
Use the second row of knuckles on the fist of one hand to rhythmically tap on the breastbone in the center of the chest, directly over the heart. Time the tapping to a beat of one heavy tap followed by two lighter taps: ONE, two, three; ONE, two, three; etc. This pattern specifically stimulates the thymus gland, which is located directly beneath the breastbone and whose secretions play a vital role in immune response.

Daily tapping on the thymus gradually increases the size of this important gland, which tends to shrink with age, and stimulates secretion of T-cells and other immune factors. This exercise also loosens impacted toxins from lung tissue and has a stimulating effect on the heart.

Looks like the thymus is above your heart, about parallel to your armpits:

It’s going to be good seeing old faces and meeting new members. I will be bringing a few new training methods that I use, I hope they are new to you. I promise that one in particular is very effective and hard. Can’t wait to get out, as its been a tough build up to coming. Lisa you can be the first tester of the drills if you wish, I know you like to try new stuff. I feel myself getting excited as I’m typing this, leaving these cold shores will be hard, as I’ll miss many people, but not the crappy weather.
